Aug 10, 2024

In an immediate need of a new garage door? On the fence about upgrading your current garage door? Not sure where to get started? Just browsing options? If you are in any of these situations, this blog is perfect to you!

We’ll explain “the steps” to going about getting a new garage door installed to help you plan for getting a new garage door installed and make it as easy as possible.

Steps to Plan For a New Garage Door

It can be easy to overcomplicate the planning of getting a new garage door installed. It’s something that you don’t do very often and it might even be your first time going about it.

For us, there are three steps we have customers when planning for a new garage door to help simplify the process and make sure they are certain about their budget, the type of garage door, and when they need it done by.

Figuring out your Budget

Since investing into a new garage door isn’t the cheapest investment into your home you’ll make, it’s important to understand what you’re willing to spend. This includes labor, materials, and potentially more to get your garage door installed, not just the cost of the door.

To help with this we have a few suggestions:

  1. Check the cost of your current garage door. This isn’t always easy to find but in general you’ll be able to find a ballpark price for your current door. This can help you understand if you want to fully upgrade or just replace the one you currently have.
  2. Look at the different options and sizes of doors. There are many different types of garage doors from single car, roll up doors, two car-two door doors, and many, many more.
  3. Once you’ve researched the different styles, think about other materials. Things ranging from material of the garage door, colors, styles of paneling, windows, etc. to help you get closer to the accurate price of the garage door alone.

One you’ve done all this fun research, move onto the next step.

Pick Your Garage Door

This falls on the back of what the research you just did. You know the cost of your current garage door, you’ve found out the different types of doors there are, and you’ve found out the multitude of creative choices you have to style your garage door.

Now it’s time to pick your door out.

There are plenty of resources to order you garage door, one being Clopay, which we’ve installed many times. You can have this delivered to your home or pick up, if you have the means of transporting back home. After that move onto the last step but a very important one.

Planning When you can get your Door Installed

Since garage doors are home to one very important aspect of your life, your car(s), it’s important to find a date that works well for you.

You don’t want to just schedule this on any day when all of a sudden, you need to take your kids to practice or you have an important meeting you forgot about at noon.

Installing a new garage door will obviously make your garage a bit hard to get in and out of for some time, so make sure your car is already outside or you aren’t in need of it for a bit.
