Keep Your Garage Cool This Summer!

Mar 25, 2025

As summer quickly approaches, it’s essential you keep your garage at a stable temperature for a few reasons. Keeping your garage set at a stable temperature will allow your equipment to function properly, keep your interior walls from warping, and most importantly – keep your vehicle’s temperature down while inside. Let’s discuss ways to keep your garage cool.

HVAC

Having a functioning HVAC running inside your garage would be the the #1 factor in keeping your garage cool. A few suggestions to optimize your HVAC’s performance would be to regularly change the filter, make sure the vent(s) is free of any obstructions, and avoid any drastic temperature changes on the thermostat. In cases of extreme heat – never turn off the system, just move the set temperature up a few degrees if you need. Turning off completely may cause the interior temperature of your garage to rise drastically and the HVAC can become overworked trying to get it back down to the right temp.

Insulation

Insulation is essential in keeping your garage temperature down as well. Make sure there are no cracks in the drywall that could allow excess heat into the garage as well as confirm the weather strip along the bottom is free of cracks and rests flush to the ground when the door is closed. Pairing proper insulation with a functioning HVAC, you shouldn’t have any issues with regulating the interior temperature of your garage.

Ventilation

When trying to keep your garage cool, ventilation is oftentimes overlooked. If your garage remains closed for extended periods of time, it’s important to open your door at least every other day or daily if you can. This will allow fresh air in and recycle the stagnant old air out. If you do not have an HVAC in your garage, ventilating your garage will be essential to make sure your oven isn’t just trapping hot air in as your garage would be acting like an oven.

Takeaways

Keep in mind the 3 things above this summer and you should make it comfortably through this summer. Fully functioning HVAC, proper insulation, and frequent ventilation will each contribute to keeping your garage from becoming too hot and keep fresh air cycling through.
